Moscow: Deployment of Nuclear Weapons in European Countries Threatens Russian National Security
Moscow, May 05 (QNA) - Moscow stressed that the deployment of nuclear weapons in non-nuclear European countries poses risks to Russian national security.
Russia's permanent representative to the United Nations in Geneva Gennady Gatilov, said in statements broadcast by Russian media that there is no doubt that the presence of nuclear weapons on the territory of non-nuclear European countries, including Finland, in the future, poses risks to Russia's national security, adding that they have repeatedly called for the withdrawal of US nuclear weapons from Europe with the elimination of the relevant infrastructure.
Gatilov pointed out that withdrawing US nuclear weapons from European countries, as well as non-nuclear countries abandoning their ambitions to engage in "joint nuclear missions" and "expanded nuclear deterrence", would make an important contribution to restoring confidence and strengthening the regional security architecture.
