Geneva, May 27 (QNA) - The World Health Organization (WHO) said on Wednesday that the number of hantavirus cases linked to a cruise ship outbreak has risen to 13.

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said in a post on X that Spain had reported a new case among passengers who remain in quarantine, bringing the total number of infections connected to the outbreak to 13.

He added that three of those infected have died from the disease.

Ghebreyesus said no new deaths had been recorded since May 2 and described the situation as stable, with infected passengers receiving medical care while others continue to remain under quarantine measures.

The outbreak was linked to the cruise ship MV Hondius, whose passengers disembarked around two weeks ago.

Hantavirus is a rare but potentially serious disease transmitted primarily through contact with infected rodents or their droppings, and can cause severe respiratory illness in humans. (QNA)
