Washington, February 02 (QNA) – A powerful snowstorm that swept across the southern United States led to the cancellation of more than 2,400 flights.

Charlotte Douglas International Airport in North Carolina reported that the storm forced the cancellation of more than 1,800 flights over Saturday and Sunday. A team of 300 personnel was deployed to clear snow from the runways and roads.

Meanwhile, Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport announced the cancellation of over 600 flights on Saturday evening, in addition to approximately 50 flights to and from Atlanta in the early hours of Sunday.

The US National Weather Service warned of an intensifying coastal storm that will bring heavy snowfall and strong winds to North and South Carolina. A powerful polar air mass associated with the storm will cause temperatures to plummet below freezing in parts of South Florida, while temperatures in West Virginia reached -33 degrees Celsius. (QNA)
