Doha, September 16 (QNA) - The State of Qatar attaches great importance to public hygiene management as a key element in improving the quality of life and preserving the environment.

This is achieved by launching sustainable initiatives and programs and adopting innovative solutions that contribute to enhancing environmental awareness, encouraging community participation, and developing infrastructure for waste management and recycling, in line with the objectives of the National Strategy and Qatar National Vision 2030.

In this context, the Ministry of Municipality is working to introduce technology into public cleanliness management through qualitative projects, especially smart containers. The experiment was first implemented in Al Wakra Municipality, with plans to gradually expand to cover all areas of the country in the coming years. This will ensure automated cleanliness operations are managed and smart systems are adopted to track and monitor work with high efficiency and accuracy.

In his remarks to Qatar News Agency (QNA), Director of the Public Cleanliness Department at the Ministry of Municipality Muqbil Madhour Al Shammari said that the smart containers experiment will soon be implemented in the municipalities of Doha and Al Rayyan, as well as the northern areas, making all cleanliness management operations fully electronic. This will contribute to raising the quality of services and enhancing the well-being of people in Qatar.

He pointed out that cleanliness is no longer solely an individual or governmental responsibility, but has become a community partnership encompassing citizens, residents, and institutions, urging everyone to participate in efforts to maintain a clean environment.

He also emphasized that Qatari society possesses a strong and educated environmental awareness, pointing to the role of schools and student groups such as "Friends of the Municipality and Environment" in spreading a culture of cleanliness among generations, as well as participating in waste sorting and recycling.

Muqbil Madhour Al Shammari noted that the ministry is relying on several initiatives to promote a culture of cleanliness, including the "Zero Waste" campaign to raise awareness in schools, neighborhoods, and public areas, and the Friends of the Municipality initiative to encourage community participation in environmental protection and waste sorting at the source. This initiative was successfully implemented during the FIFA World Cup, and the country has benefited from it in electricity generation and recycling.

He indicated that the ministry has expanded the scope of its initiatives to include other cities, with approximately 11,000 recycling containers distributed in Doha, collecting approximately 2,183 tons of recyclable waste. Meanwhile, 12,226 containers were distributed in Al Rayyan and the northern regions in cooperation with private sector companies.

Concluding his remarks to QNA, the Director of the Public Cleanliness Department at the Ministry of Municipality emphasized that these initiatives and projects of the Public Cleanliness Department are part of the national strategy for Qatar National Vision 2030. (QNA)
