MoECC Organizes Workshop to Support Implementation of Measurement, Reporting, Verification (MRV) project.
Doha, July 2 (QNA) - The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC) has organized a workshop entitled "Supporting the Implementation of the MRV Project."
Representatives from several national entities in the public and private sectors, as well as advisory and technical bodies, and national and international experts in the field of climate action, participated in the two-day workshop.
The workshop aims to build national capacity to use a national MRV platform, introduce its operating mechanisms and its role in achieving climate goals, clarify the roles and responsibilities of relevant entities in data collection and submission, and enhance institutional cooperation to ensure the sustainability of climate action in the country.
The workshop program included training sessions and presentations, covering the latest methodologies in data collection and analysis, and reviewing international best practices in this field.
In his opening remarks, Director of the Climate Change Department at the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Eng. Saad Abdullah Al Hitmi emphasized that organizing this workshop reflects Qatar's unwavering commitment to promoting climate action and developing national tools that contribute to fulfilling international obligations, foremost among which is the Paris Climate Change Agreement.
Al Hitmi explained that building an effective national measurement, reporting, and verification (MRV) system is a fundamental pillar for achieving transparency and tracking progress in reducing emissions.
It also contributes to improving the efficiency of national policies and actions related to climate change.
He said that the Ministry is working to develop the climate information infrastructure and enhance integration among various national sectors, ensuring unified efforts and coordinated and effective data exchange.
He noted that the workshop also aims to enhance participants' capabilities in using the national MRV platform and clarify their responsibilities in preparing and submitting annual climate reports, while emphasizing the importance of coordination among relevant stakeholders to ensure the accuracy and continuity of data flow.
He emphasized that the project's success depends on effective partnership and cooperation between national entities in the public and private sectors, as well as strengthening national capacities and adopting international best practices.
He praised the technical support provided by partners in this field.
Al Hitmi expressed his hope that the workshop would yield a shared vision and a clear roadmap that would enable the project to move from the planning phase to practical implementation.
He commended the efforts of the Ministry's working team and all partners in preparing and organizing the workshop.
At the conclusion of the first day, participants commended the efforts of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change in organizing the workshop, affirming their commitment to supporting cooperation and coordination to achieve the objectives of the National Measurement, Reporting, and Verification Project.
