Doha, November 09 (QNA) - The State of Qatar's Ministry of Environment and Climate Change participated in the 37th Meeting of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer, held in Nairobi, Kenya, with wide participation from member states and international and regional organizations.

The State of Qatar was represented by Youssef Ibrahim Al Hamar, Assistant Undersecretary for Environmental Affairs, who delivered a statement reaffirming Qatar's commitment to international environmental agreements, including the Vienna Convention, the Montreal Protocol, and the Kigali Amendment.

Al Hamar highlighted Qatar's achievements in phasing out ozone-depleting substances ahead of schedule through national programs and regulatory measures, particularly in industrial, refrigeration, and air-conditioning sectors.

He also stressed the ministry's ongoing efforts to strengthen national environmental monitoring systems to track air and water quality in support of ozone layer protection and sustainable development in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.

The statement also outlined the ministry's strategy focusing on efficient natural resource management, ecosystem protection, circular economy initiatives, waste management, scientific research, and collaboration with academic and specialized institutions.

Regarding international cooperation, Al Hamar noted that Qatar is in the process of completing ratification of the Kigali Amendment and reaffirmed the country's commitment to supporting the objectives of the Montreal Protocol and continuing regional and global cooperation to ensure a safe and sustainable environment for future generations.
